The University of the 3rd Age provides courses on a wide range of subjects, presented in an informal manner for those who have retired and wish to extend their learning to new fields or to learn new skills.
U3A is a world-wide organisation which was founded in France in 1972. The first Australian U3As were formed in Melbourne in 1984 and by the end of 2008 there were over 70 U3As in Victoria with a total membership of over 20,000.
No qualifications are required for admission and there are no examinations. Membership of Yarra Valley U3A entitles you to attend as many courses as you desire and can fit in. Some courses have small charges for materials used or may involve payment of travel costs and/or admission fees to galleries or museums. In addition our members are entitled to sit in on many La Trobe University first year courses
There are many U3A campuses around Melbourne, so if we do not offer the particular subject or activity you wish to pursue, call at or phone our office (9499 2080) and we may be able to tell you of another campus which does..
U3A tutors donate their time and efforts in sharing their knowledge, and in some cases make their homes available for meeting places. You too may have some special knowledge or skill which you would like to share with others - if so please get in touch with our Course Co-ordinator and discuss what you would like to do.
